Playing for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan, Sir Garry struck every delivery of an over from Malcolm Nash for six—the first player to achieve the feat in first-class cricket.
Captain of the West Indies
Sir Garry captained the West Indies in 39 Tests. His leadership carried the expectations of a Caribbean people for whom cricket expressed both excellence and regional pride.

At 21, Sir Garry scored an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan, setting a world record for the highest individual score in Test cricket. The record stood until 1994.
